Emily Aspin

Where are you from?
I grew up in Darwen, Lancashire where I lived until I moved to Lancaster for University. After working as an OT for 4 years I was lucky to take a 6 month career break to travel. In 2014 I moved to Australia to work and travel and came home in 2020, I now live in Bolton.

Where did you study/ work previously?
I graduated as an OT in 2009 at the University of Cumbria, Lancaster. My first OT roles were mainly rotational in the acute setting. When I was living in Australia, I spent 4 years working within in-patient rehabilitation hospitals both on the Mid North Coast and in Sydney. Since moving home, I predominantly worked in Stroke Rehabilitation.

What is a typical day at MTS like for you?
Every day at MTS is different! There is so much variety in what we do, and that's what's so good about it, no client is ever the same and neither are our days.

What’s the best thing about your role?
It would have to be supporting clients to achieve their full potential. It's very rewarding to be able to overcome barriers and help people live life to the fullest. I think the role of an OT is unique in that we look at all aspects of a person and their environment and not only do we support the client through their rehabilitation journey but also support those around them and we can really make a difference to everyone involved.

What do you consider is your biggest achievement within your role?
It's difficult to choose one particular client achievement as there's been many success stories over the years, but I think just generally being able to transform people's lives for the better and empower people to do the things that are the most meaningful to them.
